Pop Up Classes

These are one-time free classes that just "pop-up" when a presenter has a topic of interest that we think the HEB Community would enjoy.

RSVPs requested but no registration is required.

Watch for future classes in HEB's Friday eBlasts and on this website!

TRASH OR TREASURE?  WHAT'S IT WORTH?

Do you have treasure in your home that you think could have value but you are not certain?  Are you wondering if you should sell or save a family heirloom?  Martin Kay was a former member of the International Society of Appraisers and has made a career of knowing and understanding the value of antiques throughout the US and Europe.  He will discuss his 50 year career, how he got involved in this line of work, the various antique shows he has participated in, as well as the current status and future of antique business.  Feel free to bring in a few of your treasured possessions or photos of your items for Martin to appraise.

Learn All About Calligraphy

HEB resident Natalie Lassow has been doing calligraphy for decades.  She will share her story and demonstrate her skills in this hour long session during which she will explain why she wanted to learn this art form and how she got started, show the various types of equipment needed, and tell why she loves it so much.  She will also show some examples of her work, including a meaningful inscription of "Desiderata," a labor of love for her son for a special birthday.

Practice markers and lined paper will be provided for all participants to try their hands at creating beautiful lettering.

In this era of "fake news" and dissatisfaction with the news media, this class will provide an interactive forum in which to talk about how new stories are pursued, verified, and green lit for print or broadcast publication.
